My Estate
Un programa de actividades fotográficas que se convirtió en el medio para hablar, compartir y sugerir nuevas ideas para el cambio y en el que cada participante fue instruido en el uso de la cámara automática y aprendió los fundamentos básicos de composición fotográfica.
Se les pidió representar su “estate” por medio de la toma de imágenes fotografías que mostrasen aquello que les gustaba y aquello que no les gustaba de su vida en aquel lugar. Todos se sintieron felices al tener la oportunidad de utilizar una cámara ellos solos y todos aceptaron el condicionante principal: Cada una de las fotos producidas debía tener un significadoya que más adelante tendrían que escribir acerca de ellas. Los participantes se esforzaron enormemente a la hora de escribir y de tomar fotos y los resultados conseguidos fueron realmente magníficos. Montaron una exposición que fue alabada por doquier y gracias al trabajo realizado, el departamento de vivienda, invitado a la inauguración, se dio cuenta de la situación existente y se movilizo con el fin de intentar resolver algunos de los problemas allí representados.
La experiencia de trabajar con ellos fue realmente enriquecedora, si bien lo más importante fue la creación de un entorno seguro en el que se sintieron libres de hablar de sus vidas y sus experiencias, en el que simplemente les escuchamos.
A program of photographic activities that became the medium to talk to, to share and suggest new ideas for a change and where each participant was instructed on the use of an automatic camera and learnt some basic composition skills. They were asked to represent their estate by taking pictures of whatever they liked and disliked.
They all felt happy about being allowed using a camera on their own, and they all accepted the paramount condition: Every single picture had to have a meaningbecause at a later stage they would have to write about them. Participants put a great deal of creative effort into the writing and the taking of the pictures and the results were great. They put up an amazing exhibition, which was praised by everyone. Thanks to the work, the housing department became aware of the situation and moved forward to try to solve some of the problems stressed on the work.
In many ways it was a very enriching experience as the greatest outcome of this project was the creation of a safe and supportive environment in which they felt free to talk about their lives and experiences and where we just listened to them.
